Paisajes sonoros (y cómo me fascinaba escuchar el concierto de las ranas)

 Hace unos días leí un artículo de National Geographic sobre el canto de las ranas y el cambio climático y me acordé de mi infancia cuando escuchaba el concierto de las ranas antes de dormirme. Me alegraba, me fascinaba y me llevaba al profundo sueño. Nuestras ciudades están llenas de sonidos naturales que nos conectan con la naturaleza y nos enseñan que no vivimos y no debemos vivir como dos mundos inconexos.

La lluvia torrencial no debe ser un problema

Anoche tuvimos una de estas grandes tormentas que suelen aparecer en Valencia a finales de verano y en otoño. Destrozó muchas fallas (son las primeras Fallas de la época post-covid) e inundó muchas calles, barrancos y campos. Y me pregunto cómo sería posible disminuir estos efectos negativos y si es posible, aprovechar todo este agua, después de meses sin precipitación alguna.  

Muchos hemos escuchado que la vegetación y, precisamente, su suelo puede disminuir los efectos de una lluvia torrencial como la vivida anoche en Valencia. Pero, ¿es esto posible aquí, en Valencia? Por supuesto que sí. 

Regeneración dunar en El Saler (Valencia): Conociendo proyectos pioneros

Uno de los proyectos más interesantes de Restauración de Paisajes en Valencia es el proyecto de Regeneración dunar en El Saler.

Este proyecto surge después de años de urbanización y construcción de infraestructuras provocando la destrucción del cordón dunar paralelo a la playa y con ello, la desaparición del hábitat de flora y fauna autóctona. Esto ha acelerado la erosión de las playas y también ha eliminado una barrera natural frente a los temporales marítimos, incrementando la vulnerabilidad de las zonas cercanas.

Para combatir los efectos negativos de la degradación dunar, en 1981 se inicia el proyecto de regeneración por parte de la Oficina Técnica Devesa - Albufera (OTDA) del Ayuntamiento de Valencia.

Me encanta el olor a césped recién cortado, a flor de azahar, a perfume, a tormenta, a sol quemando, a hojas mojadas, a nieve... Todos hemos sentido el gran abanico de los olores en la ciudad - algunos más agradables, otros no tanto. A pesar de eso, todos nos dan una valiosa información y además, nos transportan a otros momentos de nuestras vidas. Todo un lujo de experiencia.

I really enjoy the smell of  freshly-mown grass, of orange blossom, of parfume, of a storm, of the sun burning, of wet leaves, of snow... All of us have felt the amazing variety of scents in the city - some of them quite nice, and others not. However, all of them give us valuable information and tranfer us to other moments of our lives. What an incredible experience!

Chimera of a Lion

Today was the inauguration of the"Lion" in its former place, from where it was removed almost 40 years ago due to the building of the ensamble of the National Palace of Culture. It was very nice to see in the online newspapers that many people were there paying tribute to the dead soldiers in the recent Bulgarian history. Many of them have relatives that were killed during the wars in the XX c. and longed for a place where to remember them, but it is a pity that many others joined in this polemic fight in the last years because of nationalistic ideals and military pride. And even more striking are the actions of Sofia Municipality in this conflict, disregarding art and professionals and despite its verbal struggle for democracy, there was a lack of democratic approach in dealing it.

La identidad del colectivo Naus de Ribes

Naus de Ribes fue concebido como una plataforma abierta, como la materialización del proceso participativo democrático que va a trasladar las voces de los ciudadanos a la institución. Poco a poco esta plataforma promovida por un equipo pequeño pero muy activo se consolidaba y con la ayuda de otros empezó a identificar lo que faltaba en el barrio, a involucrar a más y más gente, a gente distinta, a inspirar a algunos, e igual preocupar a otros. Y aunque parezca simple, esto es un proceso de años, de maduración continua de ideas, de horas incontables de trabajo, de momentos de embriaguez de logros inesperados y de muchos otros de decepción, de desesperación...

Naus de Ribes - the initiative

Some months ago I joined the collective Naus de Ribes, which defends the necessity of making public facilities in the former and unused railway warehouses. The vibe in the group is really stimulating to go on working on a real project with all the possibilities still open.

In January 2016 an  open call for collaborators was made as the original group was too small to develop further the work to defend the project to the City Council. I was aware that something was moving in Russafa, but I was curious to know what it was about, especially when having more free time due to work change.

The House of Water

Some weeks ago I was pleased to see the invitation of a public visit to the House of Water in Valencia. It was like a legend that you hear of rarely but you don´t know exactly how it all started.

This was the best moment to satisfy my curiosity as the project authors would guide the visit not only in the space of the house, but chronologically as well, since the first concept of the building.
