The House of Water

 (La Casa del Agua)

Some weeks ago I was pleased to see the invitation of a public visit to the House of Water in Valencia. It was like a legend that you hear of rarely but you don´t know exactly how it all started.

This was the best moment to satisfy my curiosity as the project authors would guide the visit not only in the space of the house, but chronologically as well, since the first concept of the building.

Chatting with friends during the visit, we all agreed that the building's outlook is definiteley of its time, from the 80's. But it doesn't mean that it is ugly or outdated, one just have to look carefully in all the details to see the love and care this building was designed with.

This fantastic presentation by the designers' team of Vetges Tu i Mediterrànea, completed my view over one of the best working urban projects of Valencia. They participated actively in the proposals for the future park of the river Turia, as pioneers in green sustaniable environment in Valencia.

Finally, they were encharged of the design of the 2nd part of the Turia Park, where the House of Water is situated. I was pleasantly surprised that during such a hard project, they managed to connect the neighbours from both sides of the river by arranging spaces for social encounters. There were designed open-air squares, sports fields and even, later, a police station, to reinforce the idea of social relationship in the newly established prak of the Turia river.

The great idea of using the river elements that still stood at that time to give shape of the whole 2nd part, now called after the designing studio, helps us understand the reason of unusual directions, water channels or sadly, already non-existent lakes.
